Visit the Great New York State Fair

Planning a trip to the Great New York State Fair? Why not make it a vacation? Only 30 minutes away from Syracuse, Cherry Grove Campground is the perfect place to stay for day trips to the Fair and nights by the campfire. The New York State Fair usually takes place the last 2 weeks of August/early September, ending on Labor Day. It offers a wide variety of activities, food, and fun for the entire family. An Educational Experience

The New York State Fair has several buildings throughout the fairgrounds representing industry from across New York State. From the agricultural and horticulture buildings to the science and industry building, sport activity center and art and home building, learn about what New York State is doing within each of these areas. Be sure to visit the famous butter sculpture in the dairy building! Based on a theme, a sculpture is carved out of hundreds of pounds of butter. Don’t worry – they keep it in a cooled enclosure, so it doesn’t melt.
Also featured at the fair are a variety of animals local to the region. Check out the milking parlor in the dairy cattle building, dairy cow live birthing center, beef cattle barn, the goat park, or horse barn. Various horse shows also take place during the fair, open to anyone who stops by.

New York State Fair Famous Food & Drinks

No fair would be complete without a good selection of food. The New York State Fair offers a unique variety of food from ethnic foods to more traditional American fare such as hot dogs and hamburgers. There are plenty of treats along the way as well from ice cream and milk shakes to a variety of most any sweet treat fried including Oreos, Twinkies, doughnuts and more!

And of course, a New York State event would not be complete without wine and beer local to the region. While visiting, you won’t want to miss Taste NY, a selection of food, drink, and local products from across New York State.

New York State Fair Midway Rides and Games

The Midway offers a wide variety of rides for every age. From the Ferris wheel to mini roller coasters, to a variety of fun houses, there is something for everyone to enjoy. And, while you’re there, step up and win a prize! There are numerous carnival games to play for the skilled as well as the less experienced.

Music and Concerts at the New York State Fair

The fairgrounds offer two concert stages featuring a variety of acts throughout the two weeks. Plan a trip to the Fair to see your favorite act or catch a show while you’re there.
